Our mentors are experienced hunters from all across South Dakota! They have knowledge, passion and an expertise in hunting. They also have something to share. They are a friend, confidant and a guide. They truly care about helping children develop a love for nature and hunting. They are supportive and encouraging, patient, open minded and good listeners. The mentors are willing to give the time and attention that is needed for supporting youth.

  • Be at least 21 years of age. Serve as a positive role model for a child

  • Submit a background check

  • Commit to spending quality time with a child as they learn the process of becoming a responsible, safe hunter

  • Commit to meeting the responsibilities of a mentor as outlined in the Mentor Time and Responsibility Commitment List

  • Be free of drug and alcohol abuse or treatment for 3 years

  • Have a valid driver’s license, access to an insured vehicle, and proof of insurance

  • Agree to not mentor your own child or another relative
